The Ministry of Finance has introduced a one-time, one-way switch facility allowing Central Government employees who opted for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) to switch back to the National Pension System (NPS). This facility must be exercised no later than one year prior to superannuation or three months before the deemed date of voluntary retirement. The switch is not permitted for employees facing removal, dismissal, or ongoing disciplinary proceedings. Once the switch is availed, the employee ceases to be eligible for UPS benefits and the government's differential contribution will be credited to their NPS corpus. Ministries and Departments are directed to inform all eligible employees of this provision.
