Public Private Partnership in Meghalaya: Delivering Healthcare in Difficult to Access Tribal Areas

This document presents a study on the effectiveness of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model implemented in Meghalaya in 2008 to manage poorly performing health facilities. The study evaluated 32 health facilities managed by six NGOs, finding improvements in infrastructure, staff availability, and service delivery. Results indicated increased outpatient and inpatient care, as well as improved antenatal coverage and institutional deliveries. The study concludes that while PPPs can successfully revitalize non-operational health facilities, they require state support in funding, training, and logistics to be sustainable. The findings highlight the importance of flexible recruitment and leadership in retaining human resources in remote areas.
