The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has released revised implementation guidelines for the Nagar Van Yojana (NVY) scheme. The scheme aims to develop 400 Nagar Vans and 200 Nagar Vatikas across urban areas between 2020-21 and 2024-25 to enhance green cover and biodiversity. It provides financial assistance of up to Rs. 2 crore per project for creating urban forests on forest or non-forest public land. The initiative encourages a participatory approach involving local bodies, NGOs, and corporate entities to improve urban air quality and climate resilience. Proposals are to be submitted by implementing agencies through the respective State Forest Departments.
