The Central Government reduced the statutory EPF contribution rate from 12% to 10% for wage months May, June, and July 2020 under the Atmanirbhar Bharat package. This measure aims to provide liquidity relief to employees and employers during the pandemic. The reduction applies to most establishments covered under the EPF & MP Act, 1952, excluding those already receiving PMGKY benefits or government-controlled entities. Employers can remit dues at the reduced rate through the Electronic-Challan cum Return (ECR) portal. The reduction does not impact pension contributions or benefits.
purpose of issuance
To provide guidance on how to avail the reduced contribution benefit via the ECR portal.
Most Important Details
Establishments already entitled to a 10% rate under previous notifications are not eligible for further reductions.
