Implementation of Social Security Agreement between India and UK

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has notified the entry into force of the Social Security Agreement between India and the United Kingdom, effective from July 15, 2026. This agreement includes a detachment clause allowing employees sent to the host country for work to be exempted from social security contributions for up to 60 months. To avail of this exemption, employees must obtain a 'Certificate of Coverage' (COC) issued by the respective Regional Offices. Regional Offices are instructed to process these applications in accordance with existing consolidated guidelines. Further clarifications can be sought from the International Cooperation for Social Security Division (ICSSD) at the Head Office.
