The Department of Personnel & Training (DoP&T) initiated the process to appoint a new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) following the completion of the tenure of the incumbent, Shri Heeralal Samariya, on 13.09.2025. A Search Committee was constituted to shortlist candidates, and the Selection Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, recommended Shri Raj Kumar Goyal, IAS (AGMUT:1990) (Retd.) for the position. The President of India approved the appointment, and the offer was accepted by Shri Raj Kumar Goyal. The appointment was finalized with an oath-taking ceremony administered by the President on 15.12.2025.
