Guidelines for Securing Personal Information and Aadhar Numbers in RTI Applications

This Office Memorandum directs all Government of India Ministries and Departments to ensure the protection of sensitive personal information in RTI applications. It mandates that Aadhar numbers should not be requested during the RTI process. Furthermore, if an Aadhar number is present in an RTI application or reply, it must be masked or hidden before being uploaded to public websites. These measures are in compliance with the Aadhar Act, 2016 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
