The Department of Personnel and Training has issued a directive clarifying that Indian Postal Orders (IPO) are a valid mode of payment for RTI application fees under the RTI Rules, 2005. It has been observed that some public authorities are refusing to accept fees via IPO, which is a violation of the rules. Such refusal may lead to penalties being imposed on the concerned Central Public Information Officer by the Central Information Commission.
