This report presents the findings of the second round of the National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey (NARSS) conducted between November 2018 and February 2019. The survey was commissioned by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to measure performance against Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs) for the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). It covered 92,411 households, 6,002 schools, 6,082 Anganwadi Centres, 1,091 public toilets, and 6,136 public spaces across 29 states and 3 Union Territories. The survey assessed sanitation coverage, toilet accessibility, functionality, usage, and solid and liquid waste management practices. The results serve as a reference point for World Bank project support to the Swachh Bharat Mission.
